APIWAT CHITAPANYA

New design from designer in Thailand, Apiwat Chitapanya is Kratib ceramic stool and side table for Prempracha, ceramice manufacturer in Chiangmai, north of Thailand.

 

This design is inspired by the food storage containers from the Northeastern and Northern parts of Thailand. By recreating the “kratib” shape which was originally basketry work, the proportion and indented patterns are adjusted to fit the purpose of use. The original woven patterns are replaced by hand carved lines in order to create a more contemporary work and pastel colors are used to soften the look.

 

Culture is one of the most essential ingredients of the design direction of Prempracha. In this collection, cultural heritage values are transmitted through the work of forms.  Folk cultural values It is sent through the details of the design by using the elements of the original shapes and details, resulting in a completely new product with new purpose.

 

Kratib Stool and Side table is a collection fine stoneware created by hand throwing technique. Inspired by the food storage containers from the Northeastern and Northern parts of Thailand. By recreating the “kratib” shape which was originally basketry work. The original pattern have been minimized with hand painted techniques. The use of pastel colors are contrasted by painted gold lines to create a contemporary item. They are high fired at 1230 degree Celsius, resulting in a strong and durable outcome.

 

There are researches and tests of different blends of the raw material in order to find the right mixture which stabilizes the form of thin and thick layers in its raw and fired stages. The mixture which matches with the delicateness of the design and matches with the calculations and the details, where different thicknesses of clay are close one another, which prevents tears and cracks.
